It's good to know that help is available from the government if you think you will have difficulty in paying the costs of a funeral.
Your application for a claim needs to be made within 6 months of the funeral taking place, even if you’re waiting for a decision on a qualifying benefit.
If you have an invoice or signed contract from the funeral director, you can make a claim before the funeral takes place.
How to claim
Claim by phone by calling the Bereavement Service helpline: 0800 731 0469 from Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 3.30pm.
