If a non-religious funeral is preferred, a humanist or civil ceremony may be a suitable option. This can be held at your home, in a crematorium, at the graveside or at a natural burial site.
Humanist funeral
A humanist service does not typically have any religious content. A professional humanist celebrant leads, speaking about the deceased person's life and family. Contributions such as readings or music are often made by friends and family members.
Civil funeral
If the person who has died wasn't particularly religious but some religious content such as prayers or hymns are to be included, a civil ceremony may be appropriate. As with a humanist service, this would be led by a professional civil celebrant.
